Robinson Pass

flickr.com/photos/gravitywave/91431101/

Between Oudshoorn and Mosselbay lies the Robinson Pass.
The higher part of this pass is scenically very beatiful, offering
distant views of rolling mountains and the sea.
The surrounding mountains are covered with fynbos and large tracts
of pine plantations and forest patches.
A very attractive hike has been laid out, the Koumashoek Circuit,
and is well worth doing. It takes approximately 6 hours to complete,
a distance of 14,7 km.
However, before rushing off, check it out with Cape Nature
as special permission has to be granted.

My husband,a keen and experienced hiker commented that it
was one of the best that he had completed.
I waited at the end of the hike for him, soaking in the
peace and quiet that the soul craves.

Hiking Tips

There are dangers when hiking - even though Table Mountain is in the middle of the city, it is very dangerous. People get caught in all kinds of predicaments whilst climbing.

Here are some tips and suggestions to follow for a comfortable hike.
  • Watch out for dehydration - and remember to take a lot of water and something to eat in order to sustain your energy levels.
  • If you climb at night, be sure you are joining a group of experienced climbers, and wear a head-lamp.
  • It gets very cold at the top, (even on hot days) especially if you have sweated, so take a warm jacket.
  • The weather can change in a very short period of time, that is why you need something warm, even on a hot day.

Cape Town City: Lion's Head

The beginner might take about 3 hours to walk to the top of Lion's head, whilst veterans can do it within 21 minutes!

At full moon, large groups of people walk up Lion's Head using torches and headlamps - very romantic!
